Caution notice about Unrecognised / Unapproved Pharma Institutes and Courses

The Pharmacy Council of India is a Statutory Body constituted under a Central Act passed by Parliament to regulate the profession and practice of pharmacy in India.

In its recent notice (Ref. No. 14-336/2017-PCI). It has cautioned the public as below :

It has come to the notice of Pharmacy Council of India that a number of Pharmacy Institutions are functioning in the country without seeking / obtaining recognition / approval from the Pharmacy Council of India. The qualifications obtained by students from such institutions which are not approved / recognized by the Pharmacy Council, will not entitle such students to register themselves as Pharmacists under Pharmacy Act 1948. The approved Pharmacy qualifications for registration as Pharmacist under the Pharmacy Act are :

a) Diploma in Pharmacy (D. Pharm)

b) Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm)

c) Pharm.D & Pharm.D (Post Baccalaureate)

Besides above courses, the PCI also grants approval to Bachelor of Pharmacy (Practice) course and M.Pharm course.

In view of this, all students aspiring to pursue any course in Pharmacy for the purpose of registration as a Pharmacist under the Pharmacy Act 1948 should first ensure that the particular institution which they intend to join has been recognized / approved by the Pharmacy Council of India for the conduct of the course of study / approved u/s 12 of the Pharmacy Act 1948. The list of such institutions is displayed on the official website of the council www.pci.nic.in
