AMU Revised BTech Entrance Exam Date Clashes with IISER Aptitude Test

2020-02-15

Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has changed the date of its Entrance Exam for admission in BTech to 31 May 2020. Earlier, it was scheduled to be conducted on 17 May. This comes in light of the fact that the earlier date clashed with JEE-Advanced, which is scheduled on 17 May.

What now ?

While the date change comes as a huge relief to students aiming to get into premier engineering institutes, there is a new dilemma now. The revised date clashes with IISER Aptitude Test.

IISER Aptitude Test

There are 7 Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER), established by Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, at Berhampur, Bhopal, Kolkata, Mohali, Pune, Thiruvananthapuram and Tirupati.

The IISERs offer wonderful opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students seeking fulfilling science-based careers. Students can learn the basic sciences through a detailed program and, in parallel, work on cutting-edge research alongside exceptional faculty members.   Each IISER is an autonomous institution which awards the degrees.

IISERs offer 5-Year BS-MS Integrated Dual Degree Program and 4-Year BS in Economics and Engineering Sciences. The admission to these is through 3 channels :

a) Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) channel

b) JEE-Advanced

c) IISER Aptitude Test (State and Central Boards Channel -SCB)

Students who have passed (10+2) level with science stream in 2019 or 2020 with marks equal or above the cut off percentage in their respective boards as specified by IISERs are eligible to apply under above said SCB channel and are required to appear in the IISER Aptitude Test. And this test is also scheduled to be conducted on 31 May 2020.

Lost opportunity

Given the date clash, students would be able to attempt either AMU BTech entrance or IISER Aptitude Test. And if they decide in favour of AMU, they will not be able to attempt gaining admission in the coveted pure sciences BS-MS courses in the 7 premier IISERs. Nearly 50% of the 1300 seats in IISERs are filled through this IISER Aptitude Test.

Appeal

We hope AMU / IISERs will take cognizance of this and reschedule one of the tests so that students can attempt both of these.
