XLRI was founded in 1949 by Fr. Quinn Enright, S.J. in the Steel City of Jamshedpur and is acknowledged as Indias oldest business management school. The schools main programs include a full-time 2-year post graduate program in Business Management, Personnel Management & Industrial Relations (re-christened as Human Resources Management in 2011) and Global MBA, 15 months full-time General Management program (PGDM-GM), doctoral fellow programs (FPM) and many executive education programs.
XLRI conducts XAT (Xavier Aptitude Test) on behalf of XAMI (Xavier Association of Management Institutes).
- The exam is conducted on the first Sunday of January every year.
- XAT is a pen & paper based (offline) exam and will have 4 sections
- Though not fixed, the total number of questions in XAT is expected to be around 80 to 90.

Application Procedure:
1. Register at xatonline.net.in
2. If you are interested to apply for XLRI, select the programme of your choice Business Management (BM)/Human Resource Management (HRM)/Global Business Management(GBM)/General Management Programme (GMP). Candidates not interested in any of the XLRI programmes can skip this step.
3. Candidates only interested in XAT but not in XLRI need to pay a fee of Rs. 1600/-(Rupees Sixteen Hundred only). Candidates interested in XLRI programme(s) needs to pay an additional fee of Rs.300/- each.
4. Application fee can be done using Online Payment Gateway, Cash Payment or Demand Draft in favour of "XLRI Jamshedpur A/c XAT" payable at Jamshedpur.
