About the Institute : The National Institute of Nursing Education (NINE) was established in 1964 in Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh with an aim to bring primary health services within the reach of all individuals. Earlier the Nursing Institute was offering graduate and postgraduate degree courses in nursing under Punjab University. According to Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh (Amendment) Act, 2008 No. 3 of 2009, degrees are now awarded by this Institute.
It was declared as an Institute of National importance by an Act of Parliament (Act 51 of 1966) w.e.f. 1st April, 1967.
No. of seats : General 47, SC 14, ST 7, OBC 25, PWD 3. The number of seats mentioned for Persons with Disability (PWD) will be adjusted against the category to which candidate belongs.
Minimum marks for selection : The minimum marks (in entrance test) required for the selection will be 50% for candidates belonging to General category including foreign candidates and 45% for the candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes / Scheduled Tribes / OBC & PWD.
Stipend & Service bond : Institute awards Rs.500/- per month as stipend during four years to all students. Students are required to execute bond to serve PGIMER and other Central Govt Institutions for a period of three years if offered a job within six months by any of the above mentioned institutes after the completion of the training otherwise after six months of the completion of the training, this condition of the bond will be in-operative. The students are required to open a Saving Bank Account with the SBI, Institute Branch.
