Program Offered: 4-Year Bachelor of Design in Communication Design & Industrial Design
Department of Design, Nirma University, started in 2017. The 4-year Undergraduate program begins with a common Foundation year in Design. There is intense 15 weeks of learning in each of the 7 semesters in studios, classrooms, workshops, and through fieldwork. Learning through Internships and Apprenticeships happens during the 10 weeks summer vacation period, each year. The 8th Semester is a 4-month Industry project, on the basis of which the final Degree is granted.
Intake:
(a) 40 seats in Communication Design
(b) 40 seats in Industrial Design
Total 80 seats
Seats for NRI / NRI Sponsored / Gulf Workers / Foreign nationals: Up to fifteen percent of intake is allocated for admission to NRI/NRI sponsored candidates. Over and above the Intake of 80, 15% (Supernumerary) seats are also allocated for admissions to Persons of Indian Origin, Foreign Nationals, and Children of Indian Workers of Gulf Countries/South East Asia.
Selection Procedure:
Candidates shortlisted on the basis of their performance in the UCEED-2022 examination (conducted by IIT Mumbai ) or the NIRMA-B.Des Entrance Exam (also known as NU-DET 2022) will be called for Situation Test and Personal Interview. The Situation Test and Personal Interview will be conducted at Nirma University, Ahmedabad.
Weightage :
(a) Entrance Examination (UCEED/Nirma-BDes) : 50%
(b) Situation Test : 30%
(c) Personal Interview : 20%
Note
1) NRI students who have passed their qualifying examination from outside India will be exempted from UCEED / entrance test. Their evaluation for merit will be based on the minimum qualifying marks as per Nirma University rules of higher secondary education or equivalent exam of the country of residence, skype interview, two letters of recommendation from senior school teachers and portfolio shared through email.
2) The admission in PIO/FN/CIWGC-SEA category along with its criteria and application form will be announced separately by the International Relation office, Nirma University on Nirma University website.

a) The following documents are to be produced at the time of personal interview :
> S.S.C. Examination (Std. X) Mark-sheet
> H.S.C. Examination (Std. XII) Mark-sheet
> School Leaving Certificate or Transfer Certificate
> Diploma Examination Mark-sheet, if applicable
> Latest Passport Size Photograph of the applicants
b) Additional Documents to be submitted by NRI/NRI Sponsored Category applicants :
> Proof of Residence of Sponsor (applicable to NRI Sponsored applicant)
> Passport of self and his/her mother and/or father (applicable to NRI applicant)
> Affidavit from Sponsoring person
> Equivalence Certificate from Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi (if an applicant has passed the qualifying examination from outside India)
> Passport of Sponsoring person (having the signature of Sponsor) (applicable to NRI Sponsored applicant)
> Any other relevant certificate
Fee:
- Annual Fee : Rs.3,64,000 for General category, US$7,000 for NRI
- Refundable deposit : Rs.7,000
- One-time fee (Enrollment, Foundation, Orientation, Welcome Kit): Rs.3,000
- Annual fee (Exam fee, Registration fee, Grade card fee): Rs.24,000
B.Design is a residential program. Students admitted to the program are required to stay in the Hostel. During the first year of study, the students would be accommodated in an off-campus arranged accommodation, and second-year onwards the students would be accommodated on the campus hostel. The fee for the hostel and related charges will be intimated at the time of admission.
