Program Offered: 4 Years Bachelors in Design offered across 17 campuses and 6 programs at UG level
National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), set up in 1986 under the aegis of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, is a Statutory Institute Governed by the NIFT Act 2006. Today, NIFT has 17 professionally managed campuses across India and the faculty of the institute has grown into a community of leading practitioners, education enthusiasts, entrepreneurs, creative thinkers, researchers & analysts.
NIFT is the first premier institute in India to award its own Degrees in the field of fashion education. NIFT has strategic agreements and partnerships with about 26 leading international fashion institutes & organizations that share the same academic direction, integrating NIFT students with the global mainstream of fashion
- NIFT offers 4-year Bachelors in Design (B.Des) - 3265 seats.
- NIFT also offers 4 Years Bachelors in Fashion Technology (608 seats) from 14 campuses which is open to students who have Physics, & Maths in Class 12.
In all, at UG-level, NIFT offers totaling 3873 seats (B.Design + B.F.Tech).
B.Design offers 6 programs as detailed below :
1. Accessory Design (654 seats) (Campuses: Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Jodhpur, Kangra, Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi, Patna, Raebareli, Shillong, Srinagar)
2. Fashion Communication (742 seats) (Campuses: Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Jodhpur, Kangra, Kannur, Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi, Patna, Panchkula, Raebareli, Shillong, Srinagar)
3. Fashion Design (742 seats) (Campuses: Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Jodhpur, Kangra, Kannur, Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi, Patna, Panchkula, Raebareli, Shillong, Srinagar)
4. Knitwear Design (302 seats) (Campuses: Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kannur, Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi)
5. Leather Design (172 seats) (Campuses: Chennai, Kolkata, New Delhi, Raebareli)
6. Textile Design (653 seats) (Campuses: Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Jodhpur, Kangra, Kannur, Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi, Patna, Panchkula, Shillong)
Admissions Criteria:
- Admission criteria for non-NRI category candidates shall be via NIFT entrance exam conducted across 32 cities in India.
- Admission criteria for Foreign Nationals/ SAARC/NRIs category candidates will be based on their SAT scores, and not on the basis of the Entrance examination.

Reservations
- The seats reserved for SC / ST / Differently abled Candidates (PHP) / Foreign Nationals / SAARC / NRI, in each programme are as under:
- SC 15%
- ST 7.5%
- OBC (NON-CREAMY) 27%
- Gen-EWS 10%
- Differently Abled Person (PHP) 5% Horizontal reservation for Differently Abled Person (with 40% or more disability) cutting across all sections i.e. SCs, STs, OBCs Non- Creamy and General category. Campus and programme will be allotted on rotation, at NIFT’s discretion.
Foreign Nationals/SAARC/OCI/NRI:
a) 5 supernumerary seats each at NIFT Campuses Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai,Hyderabad, Gandhinagar, Raebareli & Panchkula.
b) 3 supernumerary seats each at Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Jodhpur, Kangra, Kannur, Patna and Shillong.
State Domicile: 7 supernumerary seats per campus are reserved for admission as State Domicile Preferential Seats to candidates who belong to the 8 States where the following NIFT campuses are located: Patna, Kangra, Kannur, Bhopal, Shillong, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur, Srinagar.
- In the case of the NIFT Srinagar campus (J&K), 12 seats will be offered for admission as State Domicile Preferential Seats to the domicile candidates of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh. These seats are non-controvertible into any other category. Candidates belonging to the North Eastern States i.e. Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Sikkim will be considered for the domicile category for NIFT Shillong if eligible.
- How does domicile category seat work: Candidates who are domicile of the States where the NIFT Campuses listed above are located may opt for these preferential seats while filling the online application form. However, they will be permitted to exercise choice to take admission under the General/ST/SC/OBC category (as applicable) to any other campus of their choice as per their merit ranking.
Artisan Admissions:
Two B.Des seats are available at each Campus for Artisan category candidates.
These candidates need not take the NIFT CAT & GAT Entrance in February. Instead, they need to take a studio test & interview to be conducted in March-April 2022.
