For 2018, only the date of offline (pen and paper) exam is notified yet. Rest of the information here pertains to previous year and shall be progressively updated once published by CBSE.
The entire application process is online. Candidates are not required to send any physical document.
General Info : JEE (Mains) is conducted for admission to Undergraduate Engineering Programs at NITs, IIITs, other centrally funded Technical Institutions, Institutions funded by several participating State Governments, and several other Institutions The States of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Uttrakhand, Nagaland & Odisha have joined JEE (Main) system. Therefore, the candidates seeking admission to the institutions in these states, which were earlier admitting based on their State level examination, are also advised to fill in the JEE (Main) application form online. The JEE (Main) will also be an eligibility test for the JEE (Advanced), which the candidate has to take if he/she is aspiring for admission to the undergraduate programmes offered by the IITs/ISM Dhanbad.
Aadhaar Card requirement : CBSE has decided to use Aadhaar card for canididates of JEE Mains.
i) Candidates, who are in possession of Aadhaar, shall enter Aadhaar number, name, date of birth & gender in online application for JEE (Main) 2017 for the purpose of his/her identity and authentication thereof.
ii) Candidates not yet enrolled for Aadhaar, are hereby required to make application for Aadhaar
enrolment in case he/she is entitled to obtain Aadhaar as per section 3 of Aadhaar Act. Such applicant may visit any Aadhaar enrolment centre (list available at www.uidai.gov.in) to get enrolled for Aadhaar.
iii) In order to facilitate such candidates who are not having Aadhaar, the CBSE has specially set up
facilitation centres in each city of examination for the purpose of Aadhaar enrolment. The candidates can approach such facilitation centres who will not charge any amount from any applicant for Aadhaar enrolment. The list of the facilitation centre is available on www.jeemain.nic.in. These candidates who have enrolled for Aadhaar and have not received Aadhaar should enter 28 digit Aadhaar Enrolment ID printed on the Aadhaar enrolment slip at the time of filling online application form for JEE (Main) 2017.
iv) In case Aadhaar enrolment facility is not available at the facilitation centres, the candidates should submit a request for Aadhaar enrolment. The facilitation centre will issue a registration number to such candidates. This registration number should be entered by the candidates at the time of filling online application form for JEE(Main) 2017.
The above provisions of Aadhaar card shall be applicable in all states except J&K, Assam & Meghalaya. The candidates who have passed or appearing in Class XII examination from the states of J&K, Assam & Meghalaya need to enter the passport number, ration card number, bank account number or any other valid Govt. identity number provided they should select the city of examination in these states only.
Eligibility for appearing in JEE (Mains)
i) Date of birth : Only those candidates whose date of birth falls on or after October 01, 1992 are eligible. However, in the case of Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) candidates, upper age limit is relaxed by 5 years, i.e. SC, ST and PwD candidates who are born on or after October 01, 1987 are eligible. Date of birth as recorded in the Secondary Education Board/University certificate will only be considered
ii) Year of qualifying examination : Only those candidates who have passed their Class 12th Exam or any equivalent qualifying examination in 2015 or 2016: or those who are appearing in their Class 12th Exam or any equivalent qualifying examination in 2017 are eligible to appear. Candidates who passed Class 12th/Qualifying examination in 2014 or before as well as those who will appear in such examination in 2018 or later are not eligible to appear. The candidates who appeared in class 12th/ equivalent qualifying Examinations in 2014, did not pass in 2014, but passed in 2015 are also not eligible.
iii) No. of subjects in qualifying examination : Candidates must have taken at least five subjects in class 12 / qualifying examination in order to be eligible for writing JEE (Main) 2017. The candidates who have taken four subjects are not permitted to write JEE (Main) 2017.
iv) No. of attempts The number of attempts which a candidate can avail at JEE (Main) shall be limited to 03 (three).
v) No. of attempts and age limit for Odisha : Since the states of Madhya Pradesh, Nagaland and Odisha have joined JEE (Main) system from 2014. The age limit, for admission to institutions in these states which were earlier admitting candidates based on their state level examinations, will be as per their past practice only. The number of attempts in such cases will also remain same as per their past practice. This will however be obviously not applicable for admission to IITs/NITs/IIITs/CFTIs.
i) For offline exam (only Paper 1 or only Paper 2) : Boys of General or OBC category Rs.1,000 // Girls of General or OBC category or any student of SC/ST/PWD category Rs.500
ii) For online exam (only Paper 1 or only Paper 2) (Paper 2 in any case will be only offline) : Boys of General or OBC category Rs.500 // Girls of General or OBC category or any student of SC/ST/PWD category Rs.250
iii) For offline exam (both Paper 1 and Paper 2) : Boys of General or OBC category Rs.1,800 // Girls of General or OBC category or any student of SC/ST/PWD category Rs.900
iv) For online exam (both Paper 1 and Paper 2, Paper 2 in any case being only offline) : Boys of General or OBC category Rs.1,300 // Girls of General or OBC category or any student of SC/ST/PWD category Rs.650
Medium of question paper :
(a) English and Hindi medium : available at al centres
(b) Gujarati medium : available only at centres in Gujarat, Daman and Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
