To promote high quality scientific education, research and training, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, has set up seven Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs) at Berhampur, Bhopal, Kolkata, Mohali, Pune, Thiruvananthapuram and Tirupati. The IISERs offer wonderful opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students seeking fulfilling science-based careers. Students can learn the basic sciences through a detailed program and, in parallel, work on cutting-edge research alongside exceptional faculty members. Each IISER is an autonomous institution which awards the degrees.
For 2023 admissions, IISER Mohali is the organising institute.

Students are trained in various disciplines of basic sciences as per the designed curriculum of respective IISERs during the formative year(s). Subsequently, they can take up a specialized subject(s). Please refer to the website of individual IISERs for a description of their curriculum structure.
4-Year BS: Offered only at IISER Bhopal.
Two streams offered: Engineering Sciences and Economics
a) Engineering Stream: Chemical Engineering, Data Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. The courses in the above disciplines are designed to enable students to pursue careers in the industry, academia, or government organizations.
b) Humanities and Social Science discipline (Economic Sciences): Students must have taken mathematics in (10+2). The training during the programme enables students to pursue careers in academia, industry or government organizations.
After spending four years in the BS programme, students have the option to obtain BS-MS (Dual Degree) by spending an additional year devoted to courses and research thesis.

BS (Engineering Sciences): 60
BS (Economic Sciences): 30
Reservation:
SC 15%, ST 7.5%, OBC-NCL 27%. PwD 5% (supernumerary), KM 3 seats per IISER (supernumerary), and EWS 10% (as per Government of India rules).
Mode of Selection (For Indian Nationals, PIO or OCI candidates):
a) Mode 1: Through Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) channel
KVPY-SA-2021 students who have received the provisional KVPY fellowship award are eligible to apply for admissions.
Candidates in the extended KVPY merit list are not eligible.
Candidates seeking admission under this channel DO NOT have to appear for IAT-2023.
b) Mode 2: Joint Entrance Examination - Advanced (JEE-Advanced) of Indian Institutes of Technology (JEE) channel
Candidates seeking admission under JEE channel should have qualified in the JEE (Advanced) in the year 2023, AND should have a rank within 15000 in the common rank list or in the respective category rank lists (GEN-EWS/OBC-NCL/SC/ST/PwD).
Those who qualified JEE (Advanced) in any year other than 2023 are not eligible.
Candidates with JEE (Advanced) preparatory ranks are not eligible.
Candidates seeking admission under this channel DO NOT have to appear for IAT-2023.
c) Mode 3: IAT (IISER Aptitude Test) channel - Students who have passed (10+2) level with science stream in 2022 or 2023are eligible to apply in this (IISER aptitude test IAT will need to be taken).
Note:
- Following the judgement dated 03 February 2023, of the Honourable Supreme Court in Writ Petition (civil) 891/2021, OCI/PIO card holders shall be considered as Indian Nationals. They can apply via any of the three admission channels provided they satisfy other eligibility criteria. They shall be eligible to compete for seats in the General category.
- Max 25% seats through KVPY and JEE channels. Remaining seats are filled through the SCB channel based on the merit in the IISER aptitude test. Unfilled seats from KVPY and JEE channels will be added to the SCB channel for allotment.
Foreign nationals: Candidates who are not citizens of India AND do not hold OCI/PIO card shall be considered foreign nationals. They can apply only through the JEE (Advanced) channel provided they satisfy other eligibility criteria.
Fee: The overall fee structures for individual IISERs are diļ¬erent. Please visit the websites of individual IISERs for information about their fee structure.
Scholarships: Students admitted through the KVPY channel will be eligible for scholarships as per KVPY norms. Students admitted through JEE (Advanced) and IAT channels will be eligible for a limited number of INSPIRE scholarships as per the norms of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.
