Himachal Pradesh Technical University (HPTU), Hamirpur, a premier institution of undergraduate, postgraduate teaching and research in the country, was established by an Act of Legislative Assembly on July 30,2010 as a State Government University of Himachal Pradesh.
HPTU conducts Himachal Pradesh Common Entrance Test (HPCET) for admissions to B.Tech / B.Pharmacy / B.Pharmacy (Ayurveda), M.Tech, M.Pharmacy, MCA and MBA courses offered by HPTU and colleges affiliated to it, deemed to be University or other Universities established under the State Act or constituent units thereto.
Presently, 47 Aided and Unaided Professional Institutions, located in different parts of Himachal Pradesh, are affiliated to this University.
The University runs five Off-Campuses namely HPTU Off Campus Government Pharmacy College Rakkar & Kangra at Nagrota Bagwan, HPTU Off Campus Government Pharmacy College Seraj, Distt. Mandi, HPTU off Campus Mahatma Gandhi Govt. Engg College Kotla (Jeori), Rampur, Distt. Shimla, HPTU off campus Govt. Hydro Engg. College Badla, Distt. Bilaspur (HP) and HPTU Off Campus Business School at Rajiv Gandhi Government Engineering College, Kangra at Nagrota Bagwan (HP).
