IIMs are considered Indias premier national institutes providing quality education in management and research. IIMs primarily offer post graduate, doctoral and executive education programmes. The flagship programme of IIM, is the two year post graduate diploma popularly known as Master of Business Administration (MBA). These two year programmes are residential in nature.
Admission to the two year MBA programmes in IIMs are on merit, based on a rigorous selection process comprising of Group Discussions, Written Ability Test, Personal Interview and scores in the Common Admission Test which is commonly known as CAT. CAT is a management aptitude test conducted by the IIMs primarily to evaluate and shortlist candidates for the post graduate programme. It is a computer based exam available for eager and eligible candidates to register and take once a year.
Reservation:
As per Government of India norms, IIMs reserve 15% seats for SC candidates, 7.5% seats for ST candidates and 27% seats for NC-OBC candidates. 3% seats are also reserved for Persons with Disabilities. IIMs also provide scholarships to deserving students who need financial support.
Online Registration starts: 08th Aug to 22nd Sept 2016
Test Date: 04th Dec 2016 (Sunday) with two sessions (forenoon and afternoon): Based on your selection of preferred exam city, you will be allotted the session slot and exam centre, subject to availability.
There are 138 test cities where CAT 2016 shall be conducted.
Test Cities and Centers will be assigned to the candidates only after the last date for CAT 2016 registration
Please note that a candidate needs to pay registration fees only once irrespective of the number of institutes he/she is applying for.

Normalization:
In order to ensure fairness and equity in comparison of performances of the candidates across different test sessions, the scores of the candidates shall be subjected to a process of Normalization. The Normalization process to be implemented shall adjust for location and scale differences of score distributions across different forms. After normalization across different forms the scores shall be further normalized across different sections and the scaled scores obtained by this process shall be converted into percentiles for purposes of shortlisting.
