Banaras Hindu University (BHU), an Autonomous institution, is an internationally reputed temple of learning, situated in Varanasi and was founded by the great nationalist leader, Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya, in 1916 with cooperation of great personalities like Dr Annie Besant. Banaras Hindu University is a Central University and was created under the Parliamentary legislation - B.H.U. Act 1915.  It has a phenomenal range of teaching disciplines incorporating almost all conceivable subjects of Science, Engineering & Technology, Humanities, Social Sciences, Commerce, Law, Education, Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Sanskrit Vidya Dharm Vigyan, Architecture, Library Science, Journalism and a large number of Indian and Foreign Languages. It is the largest residential University in Asia, with over 30,000 students from India and 46 foreign countries. It has 64 hostels with nearly 11,000 inmates.

Applying for more than one course

A candidate can apply for any number of courses for which he/she is eligible, provided the Entrance Tests are on different dates (please refer to the Entrance Test Schedule).

15% supernumerary seats for the sons / daughters (including married daughters) of permanent employees (including those on probation) of BHU currently in service or were so during the academic Session immediately preceding the Session for which the Entrance Test is held

Similarly, 15% supernumerary seats in the Colleges admitted to the Privileges of the University Colleges shall be reserved for daughters of permanent Employees of the respective Colleges admitted to the Privileges of the University girls‟ Colleges (daughters and sons in case of DAV Post Graduate College) currently in service or during the Academic Session immediately preceding the Session for which the Entrance Test is held.

Max 34 seats (supernumerary) under sports category (15 in main Faculty, 3 in MMV, 4 each in VKM, VCW, AMPGC, DAVPGC)

Notes

(a) Paid seats : There is provision for supernumerary “PAID SEATS” (not exceeding 15% of the total number of seats) in certain courses, the details of which will be available at the time of admission from the concerned Faculty/Department.

However, no such provision is available for Special Courses.

(b) Provision to the extent of 15% supernumerary seats for Foreign Nationals exist, out of which 5% seats will be filled up by children of NRIs [Persons of Indian Origin (PIO)] and 5% by children of Indian workers in Gulf and South Asian Countries. The details about this may be obtained from the Office of the International Centre, C/3/3, Tagore House, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi-221 005.

Sample / Mock Test : A sample/mock test will be available on the website from 01st April 2020 for practice purpose and to give the candidate look and feel of the Computer Based Test. A detailed manual for familiarizing the candidates with the conduct of Entrance Test in CBT mode is available on BHU Entrance Test Portal.

Challenging the answer key : The candidate can login the portal and see the provisional answer key. The facility to challenge the provisional answer key and questions shall be available for 03 days from the date of upload as per schedule. The Candidates would be required to pay online a sum of Rs.100/- (one hundred only) as Processing Fee for each question/answer key challenged. The payment of the Processing Fee may be made through online only (Debit/Credit Card/ Net Banking). If the challenge is found correct the Processing Fee will be refunded online in the same account (Debit/Credit Card/Net Banking). No challenge will be entertained through e-mails/offline modes and without receipt of prescribed Processing Fee.

Note : BHU also offers BA (Hons) Arts in Faculty of Arts (Course Code No. 131). Specializations offered are Bengali, Hindi, English,Sanskrit, Ancient Indian History Culture & Archaeology, Philosophy, Music (Instrumental/Vocal), Home Science, French, Urdu, Geography etc. There will be a Common Test for BA(Hons) (Arts and BA(Hons) Social Sciences. The candidate will be required to make separate application for the two courses. Separate merit list for the two courses would be prepared and counseling for admission to the aforesaid two courses would be conducted independently.
