Govt Funding To Be Linked With Institute’s NIRF Rank
2017-10-10It is learnt that Ministry of Human Resource Development is planning to link grant of funds to higher education institutes from 2018 with their Ranking in NIRF (National Institutional Ranking Framework). The move is aimed at not only enhancing participation in NIRF and thereby also promoting furtherance of performance on the NIRF parameters which inculcate India specific topics.
MHRD published the first ever rankings under the NIRF in 2016. Currently, 2017 ranks are in vogue under 6 categories :

If the move is implemented, it will nudge many institutes, some of which are otherwise considered top league, to necessarily participate in the NIRF ranking which they have not been paying much attention to. Nearly 75% of higher education institutes in India are partially or fully funded by the Govt.
