About the university : Jawaharlal Nehru University constituted under the Jawaharlal Nehru University Act 1966, (53 of 1966) came into existence in 1969. JNU is innovative with regard to its academic structure, and the revision of curricula is a continuous and ongoing process. Selection Procedure
No viva voce examination is held for admission to B.A. (Hons). The candidates are admitted on merit on the basis of their performance in the written examination and the deprivation points added to their score in accordance with the approved admission Policy and Procedures of the University.
Deprivation points : Deprivation Points (upto a maximum of 12 points) are given to the candidates of the following categories
a) A candidate would get separate points for each educational level i.e. Class 10 / High School / Matriculation / Class 12 / Intermediate / B.A. /B.Sc. from either a Quartile 1 or Quartile 2 District
b) All Kashmiri Migrants are eligible for grant of 05 (five) deprivation points on production of registration documents from the notified authorities certifying their Kashmiri Migrant Status.
C) All female/Transgender candidates are eligible for deprivation points in the following manner - as per details given below
c)i)7 points for SC / ST / OBC / PH / Quartile 1 / Quartile 2
c)ii) 5 points for Other Candidates (UR not falling under either Quartile 1/Quartile 2)
Basic eligibility : Senior School Certificate (10+2) or equivalent examination with minimum of 45% marks. The candidates who are due to appear in Senior School Certificate (10+2) or equivalent examination are eligible to apply.
