UPSC Invites Applications for NDA and NA-II Exam: Admission to Army, Navy, and Air Force Wings
2023-05-20The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has commenced the application process for the 152nd Course of the National Defence Academy (NDA) and the 114th Indian Naval Academy Course (INAC), which will commence on July 2, 2024.
Twice a year, the UPSC conducts the NDA and Naval Academy (NA) Examination for students who have completed or will complete their Class 12 education in the same year. 
The NDA Exam II is scheduled to be held on Sunday, September 3, 2023, across multiple cities in a pen and paper format.
Intake details for the courses are as follows:
NDA: A total of 370 seats, including:
- Army: 208 seats (including 10 female candidates)
- Air Force: 120 seats (92 for flying, including 2 female candidates; 18 for ground duties - technical, including 2 female candidates; 10 for ground duties - non-technical, including 2 female candidates)
- Navy: 42 seats (including 12 female candidates)
- Naval Academy (B.Tech under 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme): 25 seats (including 7 for female candidates) Total: 395 seats
In a historic move, the Naval Academy has opened its doors to female cadets, reserving 7 out of the 25 available seats for them.
The selection process consists of two stages: Stage 1: Written Exam (NDA & NA) conducted by the UPSC Stage 2: SSB Test & Interview
Candidates selected for the Army, Navy, and Air Force undergo preliminary training, both academically and physically, for a duration of 3 years at the National Defence Academy—an Inter-Service Institution. The training for the first two and a half years is common for cadets from all three wings. Upon completion of 3 years at the NDA, Army cadets proceed to the Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun, Naval candidates to the Naval Academy, and Air Force cadets (flying & ground duty non-tech) to the Air Force Academy in Hyderabad, and Air Force cadets (ground duty tech) to the Air Force Technical College in Bengaluru.
Cadets admitted to the Naval Academy under the 10+2 scheme will undergo a 4-year engineering program at the Naval Academy in Ezhimala, Kerala.
The deadline to submit applications is June 6, 2023, by 6:00 PM. The NDA-II exam will take place on September 3, 2023.
