GFTS Applications For CPL and PPL Closing Soon
2022-10-25The Government Flying Training School, Jakkur Aerodrome, Bangalore is accepting applications for Commercial Pilot License (CPL) and Private Pilot License (PPL) courses till 31 Oct 2022.
The Government Flying Training School (GFTS) at Jakkur, Bangalore, was set up in 1950 and is one of the oldest flying schools in the country. The state-owned flying training school offers tenured programs leading to issue of Commercial Pilot License (CPL) and Private Pilot License (PPL) for aspiring candidates. 
Course fee
CPL: Rs.37 Lacs for Karnataka students, Rs.42 Lacs for others
PPL: Rs.10 Lacs for Karnataka students, Rs.15 Lacs for others
About the courses
GFTS has an average student intake of 20-25 per batch for both programs (CPL and PPL). The PPL/CPL programs also include theoretical courses in Air Regulation, Air Navigation, Meteorology, Aircraft General, Technical specific Aircraft & Engines.
(a) Commercial Pilot License (CPL)
The duration of CPL course is approximately 24 months which includes compulsory minimum flying requirement of 200 hours.
- Min Age 17 Yrs.
- 10 + 2 Passed with Physics and Maths from recognized board or equivalent.
- 200 hours flying training followed by passing practical and written exams.
- Duration 24 months.
- No maximum age but not advisable for candidates above 35 years due to cut off age for airline recruitment.
(b) Private Pilot License (PPL)
The duration of the PPL course is approximately 12 months requiring compulsory flying of a minimum of 40 hours (as per DGCA guidelines).
- Min Age 17 Yrs.
- 10th Pass
- 40 hours flying training followed by passing practical and written exams.
- Duration 12 months.
- No maximum age limit.
Medical Fitness
Candidates should possess good physique / eye sight and should be medically fit as per the standards laid down in the Indian Aircraft Rules. Candidates are required to undergo Medical Examination with a DGCA approved Medical Practitioner / Medical Board and found fit. Fitness is subject to the assessment by the Director General of Civil Aviation New Delhi.
