KVPY 2021 Postponed

In light of the order passes by the Honourable High Court of Madras, Madurai bench, the KVPY Aptitude Test has been postponed from its earlier announced date of 7 Nov 2021. The new date shall be announced later.

KVPY "Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana" is an ongoing National Programme of Fellowships, funded by the Dept of Science of Technology, Govt of India and implemented by the India Institute of Science, Bengaluru. Students who are in Class XI / XII / UG First Year in the academic session 2021-22 are eligible.KVPY 2021 Postponed

KVPY was started in 1999 to encourage students who are studying Basic Sciences to take up research career in Science. The aim of the program is to identify and encourage talented and motivated students to pursue career in research.

Courses eligible for grant of Fellowships : Under the KVPY programme, attractive fellowships are provided to students who enroll in Basic Science courses, that are, B.Sc / B.S / B.Stat / B.Math / Int. M.Sc / M.S in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Cell Biology, Ecology, Molecular Biology, Botany, Zoology, Physiology, Biotechnology, Neurosciences, Bioinformatics, Marine Biology, Geology, Human Biology, Genetics, Biomedical Sciences, Applied Physics, Materials Science, Environmental Science or Geophysics.

Fellowship amounts

Rs.5,000 per month + Annual Contingency Grant of Rs.20,000 during 1st to 3rd years of  B.Sc / B.S / B.Stat / B.Math / Integrated M.Sc / M.S

Rs.7,000 per month + Annual Contingency Grant of Rs.28,000 during  M. Sc. / 4th to 5th  years of Integrated M.Sc / M.S / M.Math / M.Stat

Selection procedure

a) Aptitude Test : After scrutiny of application forms and meeting the eligibility criteria for various streams, all eligible students will be called for  aptitude test conducted both in Hindi and English at different centers across the country.

b) Interview waived off : For 2021, there is no mention of interview. In 2020 also, no interview was conducted.

In previous years (upto and including 2019), based on the performance in the aptitude test, short-listed students were interviewed which used to be the final stage of the selection procedure.

Exemption from IISER Aptitude Test for KVPY Scholars : Please note that KVPY is one the 3 channels for admission into the 7 prestigious Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER) at Berhampur, Bhopal, Kolkata, Mohali, Pune, Thiruvananthapuram and Tirupati. For admission in IISERs, KVPY fellowship winners are exempt from appearing in IISER’s Aptitude Test (ofcourse a cutoff KVPY score is applicable).

Note for OCI / PIO candidates : Applications are invited from Indian Nationals. However, As per the Interim Order (Final Order awaited) of the Hon'ble High Court of Karnataka OCI/PIO students will be allowed to write the KVPY Aptitude Test 2021.
