IIT Admissions : JEE Advanced eligibility relaxed

Ministry of HRD, in a recent tweet, has announced relaxation in the eligibility criteria for appearing in JEE-Advanced this year due to the impact COVID situation has had on the Class 12 Board exams and declaration of results thereof. The relaxation is expected in the following criteria :

Class 12 (or equivalent) performance requirement (criteria as it exists but decision has been taken to provide relaxation due to COVID situation)
(a) The candidates should satisfy at least one of the following two criteria for admission to IITs:

(i) Must have secured at least 75% aggregate marks in the Class XII (or equivalent) Board examination. The aggregate marks for SC, ST and PwD candidates should be at least 65%. Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are required as compulsory subjects in the Class XII (or equivalent) Board examination in 2019 or 2020.

(ii) Must be within the category-wise top 20 percentile of successful candidates in their respective Class XII (or equivalent) board examination in 2019 or 2020 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.

Expected change : Students will no longer be required to meet the min 75% score or the criteria of being in the top 20 percentile. All students passing class 12 are expected to be allowed to attempt JEE-Advanced.
