PREMIUM : IACS again extends Application Date for Integ BS-MS Admission Screening Test 2020

Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS), the oldest science research institute of its kind in India (established in 1876), has extended the last date of applications for 2020 admissions in its premium 5 Yr Integrated BS-MS programmes.

Selection procedure : There are two channels of selection

(a) Shortlisting through UG Pre-Interview Screening Test (IACS-UPST) followed by Interview

Candidates under this category will have to appear in UG Pre-Interview Screening Test (UPST). The shortlisted candidates will be called for interview, out of which a maximum of fifty (60) candidates will be selected for the Program as will be declared in IACS website.

(b) Shortlisting through KVPY / JEE Mains / NEET followed by Interview

KVPY Fellow and students securing a JEE Mains 2020 or NEET 2020 rank up to top 8000 may be eligible for direct interview, depending on their rank and other screening criteria; however, the number of candidates selected through this route will be a maximum of 10.

Last date of application (EXTENDED) : 30 June 2020

Date of IACS-UPST : The screening test was earlier scheduled for 18 April 2020. However, owing to the prevailing Covid-19 lockdown, dates for all other activities (including date of test) which were announced earlier stand cancelled. Fresh dates will be announced in due course.

About the course : IACS is conducting a de novo five year Integrated Bachelor's-Master's Program in Science for highly motivated students who have passed (10+2) Level Examination in science stream. The objective of this program is to provide high-quality education, research, and training in science. Through this special program, undergraduate teaching is integrated with modern research in all major Schools of Science. The first three semesters of the program will comprise foundational courses in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biological Sciences and Computer Science. From the fourth semester onward the focus will be on chosen subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Biological Science, Mathematics and Computer Science) as majors, subject to fulfilling eligibility criteria and from ninth semester the students will be directly exposed to research.

About the institute : Since its inception in 1876, IACS has been conducting research in fundamental sciences at the highest level. IACS is the only institution of India which has earned the Asia’s first and the country’s only Nobel Prize in Science on the basis of the work done from India.

Apart from fundamental researches in the various frontier areas of physics and chemistry, IACS has ventured in a significant way into the emerging multidisciplinary areas such as non-conventional energy sources, advanced and novel nano-materials, chemical biology and interdisciplinary sciences.
