Ashoka University announces 2020 Admission schedule
2019-09-26Ashoka University has announced the schedule for admission to its undergraduate programs that commence in August 2020. The admission process will cover 4 rounds. The application form opens from 9th October.
About the University:
Ashoka University is a private research university with a focus on liberal arts and sciences, located in Sonipat, Haryana, India. One of the key drivers of the University was a desire to change the mindsets of Indian students and parents to see education as an end in itself, rather than merely as a stepping stone to securing a job. Ashoka University is funded entirely by donations and the founding group includes over 70 entrepreneurs and industry leaders.
Undergraduate Programs offered:
Ashoka University offers a multidisciplinary undergraduate programme, in the interest of exposing students to many different perspectives in and out of the classroom. Students are not expected to declare their Major until the middle of the second year. This is to ensure that they get plenty of time to try out various possibilities, to pursue extra-curricular and co-curricular interests, to discover new passions, and perhaps to change the trajectory of their lives.
Curriculum structure:
Students must pass courses that are broadly divided into three categories – Foundation Courses, Major Courses (including Interdisciplinary Majors) and Co-Curricular Courses. In order to earn their degree at the end of three years, students need to have accumulated a minimum of 100 credit points.
The course divisions and credits they need to acquire within three years are as follow:
- 7 Foundation Courses (28 credits)
- 12 Major Courses (48 credits)
- 3 Elective Courses (12 credits)
- 2 Co-Curricular Courses (4 credits)
Options for foundation course:
Literature and the World, Principles of Science, Social and Political Formations, Indian Civilizations, Introduction to Mathematical Thinking, Great Books, Mind and Behaviour
Options for Major course:
A Major is the subject in which a student will earn a Bachelors’ degree – either a B.A. or a B.Sc.

Stage-1: Application Round - Personal details, Academic scores, SAT/ACT scores (optional), Personal essay, Letter of recommendation, Extra-curricular activities
Stage-2: Interview Round - Ashoka Aptitude Test (highy recommended), On-the-spot essay (mandatory), In-person Skype interview with panel (mandatory)
