JEE Main 2020 to be Announced in Sept

2019-08-06

The JEE Main 2020 Entrance Exam for admission to Engineering programs across NITs, IIITs and CFTIs (Centrally Funded Technical Institutions), various state Govt. and some Private institutions is expected to be announced in early September.  The JEE Main is also the gateway to admissions into the IITs (last year top 2,45,000 in Paper 1 of JEE Main were eligible to appear for JEE Advanced).

The JEE Main is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and will be held in January and in April.  The best score from both the exams will be used to shortlist the candidates for creating the rank list and to derive the eligibility for JEE Advanced.  Last year 9,29,198 students registered for the JEE Main in January and 9,35,741 students appeared for the entrance test in April session.

Students scoring 75% and above in their class 12 board exams OR are in the top 20 percentile of their respective boards are eligible for admission to NITs, IIITs and CFTIs participating through CENTRAL SEAT ALLOCATION BOARD. There is a 10% score relaxation for SC & ST category students. The above mentioned policy could also be adopted by other Technical Institutions participating in counselling through JoSAA/CSAB. In case a State opts to admit students in the engineering Colleges affiliated to State Universities, the State may prepare separate rank list based on criteria decided by them. For 2020, it is also proposed to make JEE Main mandatory for foreign nationals seeking admissions to NITs, IIITs and other government funded engineering institutions in India.
