Are COMEDK UGET and UniGAUGE the same exam
2017-02-14So, many engineering aspirants have asked us this questions lately: COMEDK UGET 2017 & Uni-GAUGE-E 2017 Entrance Exams are on the same date - So, which one to attempt?
Fact:
Well, here is a valuable insight many of you did not know. COMEDK UGET 2017 & Uni-GAUGE-E 2017 Entrance Exam are the same exam. Uni-GAUGE-E 2017and COMEDK UGET 2017 exams will be conducted as a combined entrance exam on 14th May 2017. However, separate Rank/Merit will be prepared for each. Loosley put, it is just branded differently. Each exam will be for candidates seeking admission to Under-Graduate Engineering courses in the respective Participating Member Universities/institutions.
What about eligibility?
The eligibilities to both exams are broadly same. Both are open to candidates across India. Also, both exams require that the General Merit candidates should have passed with a minimum aggregate of 45% marks (40% in respect of SC, ST and OBC candidates in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics)
How about Test centres? Are these the same too?
Yes, both these exams will be administered across 152 test centres across the country.
So, are there any differences?
Well, COMEDK UGET 2017 is for admissions to institiutions within Karnataka only, i.e., those that are members of Karnataka Unaided Private Engineering Colleges Association (KUPECA) which comprise of more than 150 Engineering colleges in Karnataka .
Uni-GAUGE-E 20177 has member institutions that are spread across six states. Participating universities of Uni-GAUGE-E 2017 are:
Andhra Pradesh : K L University
Assam : Kaziranga University
Delhi : Manav Rachna International University
Karnataka : Dayanand Sagar University, M.S Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences, REVA University
Maharashtra : Ajeenkya DY Patil University, MIT ADT University
Tamil Nadu : Karpagam University, SCSVMV University , Saveetha University, Periyar Maniammai University
Implication:
If you take both the exams, then you are likely to get 2 ranks - one for COMEDK UGET 2017 and the other for Uni-GAUGE-E 2017. Each of these rank lists will allow you to seek admissions only to the respective institutes to which they are aligned to.
What should you do:
You've basically got three options:
- If your choice of institutions for admission are covered by COMEDK UGET 2017, then apply only for COMEDK UGET 2017. Remember, these are institutions within Karnataka. You pay Rs. 1200/- at the time of registration. Similarly, if your choice of colleges to which you are seeking admissions is being covered by Uni-GAUGE-E 2017, then you need to apply only for this exam by paying Rs.1500/-.
- If your choice of institutions to which you are seeking admissions are spread across the ambit of COMEDK UGET 2017 & Uni-GAUGE-E 2017, then you should consider applying to both. The joint application will cost you Rs.2000/-.
- And if you are confused regarding the institution and want to minimize your risk, then you might want to apply to both by paying Rs.2000/-.
